About Us

Indian Red Cross Society is a premier humanitarian organization which through its seven principles continued to do the activities which has been acclaimed by all sections of society nationally and internationally without any expectation. Government of Karnataka has visualized the need for grooming the youths for the new generation and as come out with a historic order to enroll the youths by all colleges by affiliating to Indian Red Cross Society under the banner of Youth Red Cross. Each college is having a Youth Red Cross Unit and thereby the students of affiliated colleges become the ‘Ambassadors’ of Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka State Branch.

We are reminded of the famous quote from the former Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who believed that “The youth of today is the driving force of tomorrow”. It is our duty to mould the youth to become socially useful citizens of the country. Each generation passes on the torch of development to the next. Hence it becomes the challenge for the present generation to groom the future of tomorrow and that is the ‘Youth’. Youth Red Cross is a group movement organized for students in colleges. Youth Red Cross is a platform where youth can exhibit their talent, skills, knowledge, ability towards the welfare of the people and Primarily Youth Red Cross focuses on Health, Service & Friendship.

Youth Red Cross Policy

The Youth Red Cross is a most important constituent of its mother organization Indian Red Cross Society. YRC aims at inculcating the 7 fundamental principles of the Red Cross movement viz., Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality. The Youth Red Cross is organized with a view to develop and deploy student youth resource for working towards these principles. It also aims at inculcating in youth the ideals and practice of service specially in relation to:

1. Taking care of their own health and that of others.

2. Understanding and accepting civic responsibility.

3. Promotion of national and international understanding and goodwill by using their international link of the movement.

4. Promotion of volunteerism.

Further guidelines that colleges must meet in order to register with the Youth Red Cross Karnataka are as follows:

1.Member’s age group is 18 to 30 years, Registration fee for colleges is Rs.1500 (One-time payment).

2. Student membership fee is Rs.50/- per annum.

3. Colleges have to send 30% of the membership fee Collected to the Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka State Branch.

4. 70% of the membership fee Collected has to be retained by the respective colleges to carry out the Youth Red Cross Activities.

5. Every College has a Programme Officer.

6. Each University has a Nodal Officer.

7. Each College has to open a separate Bank Accounts for Youth Red Cross, to be jointly operated by the principal and programme officer.

Government Order

As per Government Order No: ED 64 Vividha 2011 Bengaluru Dtd. 22/12/2011, In the light of the reasons explained in the preamble, as requested by the Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka State Branch, it is order that all the Government, Aided, Unaided, First Grade Colleges, Engineering and Polvtechnic institutions of the State should take necessary steps to start the Youth Red Cross unit in their institutions by paying Rs. 1,500/- (Rupees One Thousand Five Hundred only) to the Indian Red Cross Society and to collect Rs. 50/- annually while collecting the college fees from each student, retaining 70% of the fees collected in the Youth Red Cross unit to be used for their activities and to credit the remaining 30% to Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka State Branch, Bengaluru.

Youth are our future. Future of Youth is the future of our country. Youth Red Cross activities help youth to become good citizens.
